INTERMEDIATE LEVEL KIT
A Peter Rake design airplane featured in Flying Scale Models as a free plan issue. Prototypes built and flown by Robert
Hoffman and Rob Perrin.
The Sopwith Triplane was a pivotal design for the British company. The earlier Pup was a superb fighter, but, has several
shortcomings. The "Tripehound" could outclimb and out turn just about anything in the sky and offered superb visibility
with the way the mid wings were mountd. The life of the triplane was very limited, only seeing front line service for a few
months before being replaced by the Camel.
The construction is typical of Rake designs with a box front fuselage and framed rear section. A straight fuse is easy
to obtain and is very strong. A roomy fuselage allows easy access to radio gear. THe short nose does mean a bit of thinking
on how to place components to get the CG in the proper location.
The design power package is the Olympus belt drive and the Sp600 Race motor. Either 8 or 10 cells can be used to get
scale type performance from this plane. At just under 4lbs (if you're careful) the brushed motors are good choices. Upgrades
to brushless motors with the belt drive are simple, just put in the new motor.
Control is 4 channel. The Tripehound is capable of most standard aerobatics including loops and aileron rolls.
