INTERMEDIATE LEVEL KIT
A Peter Rake design airplane.
The 1913 Ponnier Racer, as it's name implies, was an early race plane. The period between 1910 and the start of WWI was
a time of great innovation by many small airplane builders. The proof of their ability was not advertised unless they could
do something spectacular, like win an air race. The Ponnier was one of those pioneers. The original had a twin row rotary
engine, short tapered wings and wing warping for roll control.
Pete built the prototype as an experiment in wing warping. You can choose to build in that control system as well, or,
just leave the wings fixed and use three channel control (rudder/elevator/throttle). Pete has basically flown the airplane
as a 3 channel plane and reports that it flies very well with just those controls.
The Ponnier has a very large fuselage and can accomodate just about any electronics needed for this airplane.
An option for this one is the wire wheel kit that we are just releasing. Peter also did the test flying with these wheels
and they make a nice addition to an early flying machine. Depending on the motor chosen you can also select one of our wooden
prop kits so you can carve your own working scale prop.
