INTERMEDIATE LEVEL KIT

The WACO SRE is a classic design that is beautiful in flight or on the ground. Every SRE that I have seen fly has the
same great flying characteristics that make it a good plane for an intermediate pilot and this one is no exception. Well
suited to flying from a runway, it is a bit fast for grass landings unless the grass is very short.
The construction is typical of Rake designs with a box front fuselage and framed rear section. A straight fuse is easy
to obtain and is very strong. A roomy cabin area allows easy access to radio gear and a wide range of battery locations to
obtain the proper CG.
The design power package is the Olympus geared sp400. The plane flies well on the sp400, but, the prototype (which came
out a bit on the heavy side at 24oz) flew even better on the sp480. My second SRE is powered with a Hacker A20-30M outrunner.
Control can be either 3 or 4 channel. The dihedral in the kit is adequate for good control using R/E/T alone. Adding
ailerons requires two additional servos (small ones), one in each wing. Aileron control gives good crisp response. Moderate
aerobatics are possible, loops, barrel rolls, snap rolls, and wing overs can be performed easily. Aileron rolls are near
impossible as roll rate with just ailerons if very slow.
The short kit includes vacuum formed cowl and wheel pants. The full kit includes the plastic cowl and wheel pants, plus
the plastic windshield material, wires, sticks and sheet necessary to finish the plane. Pink foam is included for carving
fill blocks. No wheels are included in the kit. There are crude instructions in the full kit (and can be downloaded from
the downloads page).
